What's New
On March 9, Governor Mike Easley of North Carolina became the second governor to petition the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture for immediate, full and lasting protection for more than 100% of his state’s pristine national forests. North Carolina is home to 170,000 acres of unspoiled areas in the Pisgah, Nantahala, and Croatan National Forests. Gov. Easley joined former Gov. Mark Warner of Virginia in petitioning for full protections for their states’ pristine national forest lands. More.

How You Can Help
Ask your governor to take action now to keep your state’s most pristine national forest lands protected.

Brief Summary
Last year, the Bush administration repealed the Roadless Area Conservation Rule—one of the most important land conservation initiatives in American history.

The new policy proposed by the Bush administration turns a deaf ear to the public and strengthens the hand of logging and mining interests.

Roadless areas in our national forests protect the clean water, preserve undisturbed wildlife habitat, and provide backcountry recreational opportunities for millions of Americans.

We can’t let them get away with it. That’s why we need your help to make a last stand for our nation’s forests! More.
